Another Fun Day Off

Woke up this morning to a text from Andi offering me lunch. So after hanging out with the roomies for a bit I went and picked her up. Just went to the mall and had some Koya, then looked around the mall. Andi and I decided to go shopping on Saturday cause we both saw some stuff we liked, and by then we'll have been paid. This paycheck coming up is going to be huge for me and I put aside some cash, not much, to shop with. I haven't bought any clothes in forever, so I need my fix, lol. Still, I am paying off my debt, so it won't be much. After that we just came back to my place and hung out.

Kyra, her friend, Andi and I are planning a road-trip to the states soon. Either Grand Forks, Fargo or (if I can convince them) Minniapolis! Going for two nights and we'll be staying in a hotel. Yep. Just 3 hot girls and me, alone in a hotel in the U.S. I'm sure there will be some sexy times. Like an arousing game of "Go Fish", and if we're feeling really naughty, Monopoly! Yep, I live the wild life.

Tomorrow I have to go downtown for a iPhone training course for work, we're going to start offering iPhones and activating them at our store. Just Jordan and I going, and I feel kinda bad cause there's a good chance I'll get the Edmonton job and quit before I ever even use this training. Oh well :P

Gaming

Bill told me to play as many video games as possible to prep me for the interview, job, career, etc. That was something I was willing to do...
Far Cry 2 is fucking awesome. Gorgeous, fun and innovative! 24 hour real time day/night cycles, spreading fire, open environment, upgradeable everything... Having a blast with it. No pun intended...
So beautiful!

MSN on iPhone!

I now have MSN on my Iphone. I'm online 24/7 and get a ring/vibe when you msg me, so if you ever feel like chatting on msn, send me a message! dale_furutani@hotmail.com

"What Is Your Greatest Strength & Weakness?"

Bioware called today and I had a phone interview with two QA people. I think it went really well. I explained that I know how to troubleshoot, reverse engineered my dalefurutani.net website when I never knew a thing about flash, not to mention used to design entires episodes for Duke Nukem 3d, and dabbled in RPG Maker back in the day.

My cousin Bill, the one who I'd live with if I get the job and who works for Bioware as well, told me from what he heard, it's looking good for me. He's gunna keep me posted over the next few days, and I should get an email from Bioware either at the end of the week, or early next week, and then I'll know for sure. But the interview went well and they were asking me how soon I could move out there, so I'm pretty sure I got it.

So looks like I'll be moving to Edmonton. I'm super excited, and a little sad.

Nerding It Up

Had today off. Slept in a bit since Kyra and I went for food and coffee at 5AM last night / this morning. Chad texted me and we decided to hang out. As you may have guessed from my previous entry, traffic was insane. Took me almost an hour to get there. He showed me a bunch of really awesome nerdy stuff, like the new additions to WoW for the upcoming patch, and Far Cry 2, which was amazing. He burnt me a copy. We had supper at BK and headed to FutureShop cause we both needed some things. Now I'm writing this as I install Far Cry 2! Thanks Chad!

I got an email today from Bioware in Edmonton. We're scheduling a phone interview. I usually do really well at interviews, so chances of me moving to Edmonton just sky-rocketed. I still don't know how to feel about it, but I just can't pass this opportunity up. I'd hate myself if I didn't follow this through.

If I get it, I'll move in about a month. It's a term position until March, so I'd probably move back in March, hopefully I'd be welcome back in this apartment, but life is unpredictable and I'd totally understand if my friends had different plans. But there's a small possibility I'd stay out there, if the position was a door to a career. But I'll come back often to visit everyone. I know I'd be back for Xmas, and it's not TOO far away, and I love roadtrips. So I'd be back often enough that I wouldn't lose touch with friends and family.

Still, this is an exciting but scary time for me.

Argh!

Stupid traffic!

Some Things Never Change

Oh Jay... Always classy...

Oh, One More!

Oh, I forgot one on my list of celebrity crushes!
Alyson Hannigan

Willow from Buffy, and the "one time at band camp..." chick from American Pie.  Now more famous for her role on the incredible show How I Met Your Mother.  Had a crush on her for ever, probably cause she reminds me of the first girl I was ever serious about.

Conflict

I have a lot on my mind lately. I applied for a job as a video-game tester in Edmonton, my cousin works there and said he can quite possibly get me the job, and I could live with him for cheap rent (considering the wages in Edmonton). It'd be an awesome job; the starting pay is great, and it's a good career opportunity. It's the same position my cousin started at and he's been promoted and making enough money to buy a house and 2 cars this year. Not to mention my job would be to play video games all day! It could be an amazing experience.

But I have a great life here too. It took me decades to find my friends, and they mean the world to me. I'm making new friends and I want to see where they lead. And of course, all my family lives here, and family is very important to me too! I've found a balance I really like, and I'm excited to see how things grow from here.

I may not even get a call back, so it may be a moot point. But until I know, this is on my mind constantly.

Though, in the end, this isn't a complaint at all. Deciding between 2 great options isn't a bad place to be in life.

Celebrity Crushes

The other day I was told I have a lot of celebrity crushes... What do you think?

Zoey Deschanel

Yes, I know everyone and their Mom has a crush on her, but she's so cute, quirky and innocent...  Although sometimes you can tell she knows it.

Anna FarisNormally I wouldn't be into someone so Barbie-ish that she's in a movie like House Bunny, but I've had a crush on her ever since Scary Movie.

Eva Green
Best. Bond Girl. Ever. Those eyes... And, well, the rest :)

Christina Ricci
Hit and miss, but when she's on, she's on.  She was one of my first celebrity crushes, when as a kid I had a crush on her as Wednesday in Adams Family.  I have a type...

Amy Adams
Isla FisherThe trashy (and that's ok) version of Amy Adams.

Anyone out there have any interesting celebrity crushes?

Welfare Costume Ideas

So Kyra and I decided we should hang out Halloween night and get drunk with friends, so if you're reading this and have no Halloween night plans, you're invited. Midnight-ish, cause we both work till close first.

Costume is gunna be mandatory, so I'm trying to think of cheap costume ideas since I'm broke. I could go as a cowboy again like I did last year, it's all clothes I own worn in a very specific combination with a borrowed cowboy hat. I could also go as a 50's gangster with clothes I own, again worn in a specific combination, just need a fedora. My last idea is to dig out all my old clothes from when I was a teenager and go as 1999 Dale, all black baggy clothes, chains, black nail-polish, etc... Lol, though I think it's a funny idea, I'm honestly not too keen on reminding myself of that style... Thinking 50's gangster most likely.

Won't be as good as when we had our novelty portrait last year though.

These are my wings, this is my beak.

Time once again for some more reviews of new music I've found, now with the added benefit of being able to listen to it with the playlist on the right-hand side of this page. Just listen to it.

Grizzly Bear - Yellow House: A great mellow album. Sort of reminds me of Bon Iver. I completely forget how I found these guys... A couple of their songs are currently in my playlist. ----->

Comets On Fire - Avatar: Ok, not gunna lie, this is a 'love it or hate it' type band. Psychedelic experimental progressive rock along the lines of Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta. If you're the type of person who can listen to an album of pure noise several times because you suspect there's hidden genius, and hopefully you eventually find it and it becomes an essential addition to your music collection, then this album may be your next 'project'. Not in the playlist :(

Everlast - Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford: You probably know Everlast by now. I enjoy this album, and while it's mostly due to nostalgia, that's still a legitimate reason as far as I'm concerned. No songs in playlist again.

Milosh - Meme: Easy listening, rock/pop/electronica. Comparable to Alaska In Winter. Kinda hard to explain. I suppose I could put a song in my playlist, but I don't think I'll bother for this album. It is good though!

Noah and the Whale - Peaceful The World Lays Me Down: Andi turned me onto these guys while we were driving around the city in her car and she put this CD on. Very indy, very catchy. A pretty cool music video for their single, '5 Years Time'. I put that song in the playlist, give it a listen! ahem ----->

Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover: Another great find, very original. I love the melodies and a new take on progressive, at least to me. I put two of the better songs on the playlist. 'For The Pier' was the first song that got me into them. I had the album on my computer for a while but never gave it a fair listen until the Genius feature in the new Itunes played it for me and I loved it. The other song is 'The Taming Of The Hands That Came Back To Life' which I just realized is awesome as I wrote this! Give em a listen! ---> --->

The Notwist - The Devil, You and Me: Finally a new album from these guys. Marcus showed me this band when we worked together, but their last cd was in 2002. It's like they picked up right where they left off. Check out 'Boneless' in the playlist ---------------------->

The Streets - Everything Is Borrowed: I can't believe this is my most listened to album right now, lol. It's a British rap band. I heard a song on TV by them somewhere and found it kinda catchy and decided to download the album, and kept putting it off for weeks. Finally downloaded and it's so refreshing, something completely new for me. Album is solid the whole way through, and the lyrics are awesome and fun to listen to! 3 first songs in the playlist are these guys! ->

William Fitzsimmons - The Sparrow and The Crow: An amazing album. Right after The Streets, this is my second fave album at the moment. A solid album the whole way through, this is definitely a 'relationship album'. Or maybe a 'breakup album'. Very comparable to Damien Rice. The second 3 songs on the playlist are from this album! =====>>>

A ton of new music for Dale, and I'm loving it. It's all loaded on my Iphone and I put it on random or use the Genius feature.

Ahem...

Oh, and in case you didn't notice, you can listen to the music on the playlist on the right!!! ---->
If you like any of the songs you hear on there you can download them from my domain at http://www.dalefurutani.net/Music/

Enjoy!

Closest yet!

Soon to be BFFs!

Shopping For Free

I spent Friday with Nikki, hadn't seen her in a while. First I went by and checked out her new place, very impressive! After that we went shopping at good ol' St. V. I'm proud of myself, I didn't buy anything but lunch! Nikki bought a lot of clothes, few of my suggestions though :P

After that we caught up for a while, then headed to Jeff's to watch The Happening. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. I wish M.Night Shithead would just die.
